Description
The Division of State Risk and Insurance Services provides and procures cost effective insurance for state owned property, vehicles, mobile equipment, and liability risk exposures.
Additionally, this division provides state-wide risk management services and procures Public Official Bonds, Commercial Liability, Sickness/Accident insurance policies, Aviation policies and various liability policies to state agencies, universities, and Kentucky Community and Technical College Systems.
The division also provides underwriting, appraisal, and fire suppression annual inspection services for state owned structures and utilizes a third party claims adjuster to assist in processing claims faster.

We currently are searching for an energetic, professional individual to join our team in the role as the Insurance Appraiser.

Job duties include:
Conduct field inspections to determine building quality, materials, and replacement values
Measure, photograph, use architectural drawing packages for square footage and perimeter
Report to office staff about obvious fire hazards, poor maintenance, and building status changes
Analyze and compile field data to develop appraisals
Determine replacement cost values and ISO construction class rank and fire ratings
Create new, review and update established electronic appraisal property files
Conduct facility condition assessment reports
Prepare and organize files for staff support processing
Required skills include:
Commercial building appraisal experience
Excellent math aptitude
Appraisal and construction software experience
Electronic drawing application experience
This position requires extensive state-wide travel, some of which will include multiple overnight stays.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Must have two years of college.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Four years of professional experience in real property appraisals, property valuation appraisals, property claims adjustment, real estate appraisal, drafting or Computer-Aided Design (CAD), mechanical or electrical engineering technician, or a related field.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Additional training in property insurance or real estate will substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis OR certification by the Kentucky Real Estate Appraiser's Board as a Certified General Appraiser will substitute for the experience requirement.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Professional experience in property valuation or in an insurance regulatory entity will substitute for the college on a year-for-year basis.

Working Conditions
Extensive travel and overnight stay is required to conduct field inspections.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.
