TITLE: Director of Student Success DEPARTMENT: Student Success REPORTS TO: Interim Vice Provost of Student Affairs EFFECTIVE DATE: TBD EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-Time EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Exempt SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY: The Director of Student Success at Kentucky State University is responsible for providing leadership and oversight in the following areas: supervision of the advising center; student support initiatives; and program administration.
The Director of Student Success serves as a campus leader and an active member of the Vice Provost of Student Affairs team.
In this role, the Director of Student Success will provide leadership and strategic direction in the areas of academic advising, retention, and student success for all student populations, including adult learners and international students.
The Director will be responsible for creating and implementing initiatives addressing the needs of all KSU students, especially in relation to navigating the student experience from enrollment to post-graduation.
The person in this role will collaborate with and convene leadership and campus partners to develop innovative and streamlined student-ready practices that promote success throughout a student's journey.
Essential Duties: Coordinates academic advising activities and plans.
Assists in the formulation, interpretation, and evaluation of advising programs, policies, and procedures.
Serves as liaison with advising personnel from other colleges and universities.
Collects data and prepares annual assessment reports.
Provides leadership in professional advising activities at the local, state, and national levels.
Serves on college and university committees.
Supervises, trains, and evaluates staff.
Provides consultation and advising, responding to student and parent academic inquiries.
Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
Hire, train, supervise, and support student and professional staff to support the retention goals of the college.
Partner with the Director of Student Wellness and Experience to develop the residential curriculum for all allocated residential spaces.
Maintain engagement budgets as approved by the Vice Provost.
Communicate appropriately and timely with the Vice Provost and others to ensure appropriate triage resolution of retention barriers and/or service concerns.
Develop, edit, and distribute student communication via several mediums.
Create and maintain effective partnerships with appropriate stakeholders across the campus/university/community.
Participate in professional development to support students.
Oversee, coach, and model appropriate professionalism, critical thinking, and judgment with all staff members.
Perform other initiatives, projects, and duties as assigned.
Serves as a key member of the Office of the Vice Provost of Student Affairs Leadership team and leads/serves on other critical university-wide committees, task forces, and focus groups.
Leads strategy around university-wide key student support and navigation initiatives and projects by implementing processes driven by industry best practices.
Establishes and sustains a strategic, collaborative, and proactive vision to assist the university with current student support and navigation efforts.
Collaborates with campus leadership on initiatives to better serve students.
Partners with the campuses to prioritize process and technology development needed for student navigation and support.
Establishes and maintains communication with all campus constituencies regarding student services provided.
Works closely with the campus offices to assist with development and refinement of processes, information, guidance, training, and other resources to avoid roadblocks for students.
Direct and coordinate student outreach and retention efforts, from initial contact with new students through students' program completion.
Partner with the Office of Admissions and other student services and faculty to create seamless transitions for students.
Additional Duties: Leading unit initiative to enhance the delivery and quality of academic advising services.
Overseeing and providing leadership across the College in the areas of student life, student recruitment and retention, and fostering a vibrant extracurricular environment that enriches the academic curriculum learning.
Tracking policy changes that impact degree progression and completion.
Identifying critical issues and areas for continuous improvement.
