Title: Underwriting Supervisor
Department: Consumer Lending
Reports to: Director of Consumer Lending
FLSA: Non-exempt
Job Grade: 11
Job Purpose: Provide leadership and management to the Underwriting Department in conformance with established Credit Union policies and procedures.
Oversee underwriting to ensure all responsibilities of that department are completed in accordance with regulations and established guidelines.
JOB SPECIFIC RESULTS Direct, develop, motivate, and manage the performance of department personnel; administer performance evaluations and recommend appropriate personnel actions.
Prepare staff schedules on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
Direct training activities for department staff.
Assist staff with underwriting and any other day-to-day department functions.
Direct supervision of Underwriters.
Direct training activities of department staff.
Monitor training expenses to ensure they are within approved budget amounts.
Collaborate with Retail staff, Director of Retail, Loan Processing Manager, and Indirect staff to ensure we meet member and dealer expectation for satisfaction as well as meet funding expectations and monitor quality assurance and timeliness of processing workflow.
Ensure all department procedures are reviewed at least annually and revise procedures as needed to remain in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
Provide communication and training to all affected areas.
Monitor department activities to ensure they comply with Credit Union policies, procedures, and regulations.
Provide coaching for staff to ensure compliance.
Work with HR to develop work improvement plans as needed.
Ensure quality controls are in place to ensure accuracy and completeness of loan documents, including but not limited to credit, income, and required documentation from the member and third parties in support of the loan approval decision.
Propose professional development activities for staff and monitor completion of recommended activities.
Monitor training expenses to ensure they are within approved budget amounts.
Investigate any indication of fraud and take appropriate action.
Evaluate potential new products and make recommendations for implementation of new product offerings.
Works with IT to coordinate changes to the core processing system and provide requirements for changes to functionality.
Assist with lending related projects by working with the project management team and Director of Consumer Lending as needed.
Maintain a continued level of communication by holding meetings with the Director of Consumer Lending and underwriting staff.
Create and analyze periodic reporting for department staff and upper management Expectations include identifying trending information related to charge-offs, and/or consumer loan applications.
Evaluate the reports for policy/procedural changes to protect credit union interest and develop product ideas to help the membership.
GENERAL MANAGEMENT RESULTS Maintains staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees, maintaining a safe and secure work environment, and developing personal growth opportunities.
Mentors staff by providing individual guidance and technical expertise.
Works with the risk management department to conduct random audits of employees’ work.
Accomplishes staff job results and departmental goals by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; effectively scheduling staff to meet the credit union’s needs; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; conducting training; initiating, coordinating, implementing, and enforcing systems, policies and procedures; and keeping supervisor updated on issues on a regular basis.
Completes operations by developing schedules; assigning and monitoring work; gathering resources; implementing productivity standards; resolving operations problems; maintaining reference manuals; implementing new procedures; keeping supervisor informed of problems and solutions.
Maintains department policies and procedures by assessing practices, identifying strengths and weaknesses, and recommending changes to the supervisor.
Maintains operations by initiating, recommending, coordinating, and enforcing operational and personnel policies and procedures; and coordinating, developing, and maintaining comprehensive procedures for each position in the operational area of responsibility.
Manages diversity in the workplace by understanding, supporting, and practicing equal employment opportunity regulations and participating in all mandatory training regarding this and related topics.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Two to five years of similar or related experience Associates Degreeor equivalent.
Advanced Excel and Smartsheet functions preferred.

Ability to motivate and influence others, foster sound relationships, present a trustworthy and diplomatic image, and deal effectively with others concerning topics of a personal or sensitive nature.
