What is an Academic Preparation & Achievement Teaching Assistant? APA TAs at the University of Kentucky are individuals who care deeply about students.
APA TAs, under the direction of the Associate Director and Program Coordinator of APA, teach courses such as UK 125 (Reading and Writing) and UK 101/201.
APA TAs are expected to assist in developing curriculum, deliver instruction, engage students in positive classroom management strategies, give timely feedback, and support the growth and development of students.
What are the APA TA Responsibilities? Teaching 1-3 courses (up to 6 credit hours in total) Holding weekly office hours Attending weekly staff meetings 2-4 hours of administrative work Understanding and adherence to University Registrar policies and procedures Other duties as assigned, for example: Programmatic support for the department, including assistance with hiring, training, marketing, and assessment projects Contributing to outreach/promotional/marketing efforts of the department All successful candidates must be available in August for training.
