Job Summary The College of Agriculture, Food & Environment department of Forestry & Natural Resources seeks a Program Coordinator.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following areas: 1) Program Development and Implementation – Establishing and overseeing reforestation projects with the Green Forests Work (“GFW”) program; ensuring an availability of planting sites for GFW operations; developing and maintaining relationships with contractors to perform key GFW services; and matching funding opportunities, planting sites, and contractors to ensure that GFW efforts are effectively implemented across the eight states of Appalachia.
2) Fundraising – Creating and implementing a comprehensive development plan; creating and ensuring maintenance of the necessary infrastructure to track, solicit and acknowledge contributors; and utilizing board members and other volunteers to actively assist in all fund development activities and cultivate positive relationships with key stakeholders and funders.
3) Oversee Project Implementation and Research Activities – Develop and implement successful restoration projects on mined lands in Appalachia and beyond; Oversee and implement grant objectives as required by funding entities, including project implementation and reporting; develop map(s) to help prioritize project development and assist in identifying and pairing with funding opportunities; oversee research activities and coordinate graduate student field activities; field data recordkeeping and reporting; oversee and assure contracts, service agreements, and major purchases are procured and monitored in accordance with University of Kentucky protocol.
Serve as the Green Forests Work liaison with PA, WV, KY, and OH partners such as the US Forest Service, The Nature Conservancy, One Tree Planted, the Arbor Day Foundation, Office of Surface Mining and other State and Federal organizations and NGOs.
4) Community Relations – Create and implement an organizational relations and marketing plan; manage all technical and informational outreach efforts such as media contacts/releases and social networking outlets; produce (or oversee the production of) reports, documents and publications ranging from quarterly/annual reports to brochures and other written materials; represent GFW as the “official spokesperson” in public appearances, professional meetings, speeches and presentations; and work with existing partners and establish new partnerships with corporations, philanthropic organizations, energy companies, state forestry and wildlife agencies, federal partners, local government officials and watershed/community groups, landowners, etc.
Job responsibilities for this position will be located in the states of Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania; successful candidate should be local to those areas.
Work location: West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky and Pennsylvania Skills / Knowledge / Abilities Computer proficiency including word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
MS Windows, Excel, and grant writing.
Driver’s license preferred.
Does this position have supervisory responsibilities? Yes Preferred Education/Experience A Master’s degree is preferred.
Experience with a conservation or wildlife related nonprofit is preferred, but not required.
Fundraising, including grant proposal writing experience, is desired.
