PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB:
Upward Bound provides fundamental support to participants in preparation for college entrance.
The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their pre-college performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits.
Upward Bound serves high school students from low-income families; high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor’s degree; or low-income, first-generation military veterans who are preparing to enter postsecondary education.
The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education.
The primary objective of the RA position is to ensure the well-being of program members in grades 9 ‐ 12, concerning health, safety, morale, discipline, interpersonal relationships, and academics during the residential portion of the Upward Bound Summer Academy.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:
1.
Help supervise Upward Bound residents and hall activities
2.
Coordinate residential hall-related matters
3.
Serve as liaison between student life, Upward Bound participants and staff
4.
Help resolve personal/social problems that arise in the residential hall
5.
Make referrals to counselor and program director
6.
Help coordinate social activities with Residence Life and Upward Bound staff
7.
Assist in chaperoning educational and cultural enrichment trips
8.
Other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of junior status; Minimum of 3.
0 grade point average; Sensitivity to and awareness of program participants; Experience working in residential hall preferred; Preference given to candidates who are from low-income and first-generation college student backgrounds.
