PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB: The responsibilities of the Assistant Softball Coach are to conduct all aspects of women’s softball within the philosophy and guidelines set forth by Kentucky State University, the NCAA, and the SIAC.
The expectations of the women’s assistant softball coach include: commitment to the mission of Kentucky State University, meeting the established recruiting goals of the athletic department, conducting softball practices and meetings, assisting with budget oversight, travel planning, fundraising, and completion of any duties assigned by the Head Women’s Softball Coach.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Meet the assigned recruiting goals for each year.
Assistant in the development of the pitching staff.
Monitor the academic progress of student-athletes in the women’s softball program.
Help ensure eligibility of student-athletes in the women’s softball program.
Assist with the retention of a satisfactory number of recruited student-athletes.
Monitor the social behavior of student-athletes in the women’s softball program.
Ability to exercise good judgment in problem-resolution situations.
Assist with softball operations including equipment management, laundry, and video.
Develop softball players who are competitive at the NCAA Division II level.
Perform duties as assigned by the Head Women’s Softball Coach.
Participate in community and campus life opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Previous college coaching experience.
Licensing and Certifications:
NCAA Recruiting Certification within the first 90 days of employment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
Working knowledge of NCAA academic eligibility requirements.
Knowledge of counseling theory.
Commitment to academic integrity and compliance with Kentucky State University, SIAC conference, and NCAA regulations.
Effective organizational skills.
Strong listening and communication skills, both oral and written.
The ability to work and communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and student-athletes from diverse educational and social backgrounds.
Working knowledge of the NCAA and SIAC Conference rules and regulations.
One -Two years’ experience preferred.
Knowledge or experience in recruiting student-athletes.
